In other cases, concerts should be held in the way of minimizing a distance between audience and artists. As an exception for China and Japan, it is accepted to follow a general auditorium arrangement if audience to be seated on stage is not allowed.

Feel Music through Vibration of Floor The House Concert

Firstly began in Chang Soo Park’s house on July 12th in 2002, The House Concert has held 380 concerts approximately. The origin of The House Concert traces back to adolescence of the artistic director Park. When he was a student in arts high school, he went to his friend’s house to practice a piano. There he felt a deep vibration of floor when his friend started to play a piano. Inspired by this magical experience, he publicized it as “The House Concert” 20 years after. Park emphasizes it is important to feel the music not only through ears but also through whole body. Since there is no wall between audience and artists, both of them can easily find what makes The House Concert special. For artists, The House Concert is a place where they can see direct reaction of audience. For audience, it is a place where they can listen to even a breath of artists. As the first salon concert in Korea, The House Concert showed potential of small derelict theaters. Based on classical music, traditional Korean music, popular music, experimental music, puppet show, and independent film, The House Concert held 380 concerts with participation of 1,500 artists. Park also completed a hundred series of live recordings.

In July 2012, The House Concert ran 100 concerts at 23 national concert halls in 21 cities under the project named “House Concert in Your Town.” It is inspired by the problems regarding unbalance between urban-suburban areas and short-run-oriented performances. This project was actualized successfully with a great support of staffs from national concert halls and artists. The project ended in great success with participation of 8,856 audience and various broadcast media. In 2013, Park began to put this project as an annual project. In suburban concert halls, The House Concert had held 1~2 concerts per month respectively. It increased overall operation rate of concert halls, and it offered performance opportunities to artists. Throughout Park’s activities, he has tried to develop the cultural foundation. In 2013, The House Concert held 259 concerts. In this year, it is planning a huge leap again.

He represented a new paradigm of performing arts through his project “2012 Free Music Festival – House Concert in Your Town.” Two things were confirmed with this project accompanying 100 concerts at 23 concert halls in 21 cities: 1)suburban audience’s craving for cultural events and 2)possibility of vitalization of suburban concert halls. Based on this festival, The House Concert began to hold concerts regularly in national concert halls from 2013. He also drew public attention by holding 65 concerts at the same time in the same day (July 12th, 2013) in different places through the project “2013 One Day Festival.”
Celebrating the 200th concert, Park wrote a book “House Concert, when you open its door (Publisher: Eumaksekye).” In addition, he released the album “Infinite Finitude” containing experimental spirit in 2010.
