In the wake of the disaster that hit Japan on March 11th, 2011, the Japanese NPO Art Art and Shanghai-based Shun Art Gallery got together to organize a charity auction and an exhibition to help the reconstruction effort of the areas affected by the earthquake and the tsunami.

Called “If We Hold On Together”, it’s a double undertaking, geared at helping those most affected by one of the most devastating natural disaster ever to hit Japan in its millennial history.

With print works from seven Chinese and six Japanese artist, the exhibition will be presented in Venice during the preview days of the Biennale – from May 31st to June 4th – and it will then move to Triennale Bovisa for the three weeks leading to the auction, from June7th to June 26th.

The charity event – with works from the current exhibition and others, donated by artists, galleries and collectors - will take place in Shanghai, on June 25th and 26th.

NPO Art Art and Shun Art Gallery will donate to UNICEF the all the funds raised on the auction days, in support to the Japanese reconstruction efforts. Of the funds raised during the sales of works during the exhibition “If We Hold On Together”, 20% will be donated to UNICEF, while the rest will be donated to the Asian Arts Education Foundation (AAEF), a non-profit organization that supports art students across Asia.

The founder of Shun Art Gallery in Shanghai, Miss Hong Ming Shun will be present, together with the two coordinators.

The exhibition has works of: Fang Lijun, Ji Dachun, Liu Ye, Pei Jing, Qu Fengguo, Sun Liang, Zhou Chunya, Yayoi Kusama, Tadanori Yokoo, Nobuo Sekine, Susumu Koshimizu, Shingo Iguchi, Aki Fueda.
